PT Freeport’s Offer Has Ever Been Rejected by Dismissed Employees

JAKARTA, JAGAPAPUA.COM – The giant gold mining company, PT Freeport Indonesia, revealed that the problem of thousands of workers dismissed by Freeport, which is currently still being disputed by several parties, actually Freeport ever made an offer to the workers, but Freeport’s request was rejected.

“We have repeatedly persuaded these workers, but our request was finally rejected, so we invite them to take the industrial court legal route”, said one of the Freeport Representatives during a meeting with the Papua Special Committee for the DPD RI at the Senayan Wednesday compound (02/12/2020).

Observed in the dialogue, according to Freeport, many steps have been taken by Freeport, for example by providing more than 4000 trained workers to be used in the future. Most of them are Papuan children.
“If you read about the economic benefits that Freeport has provided to date, it has reached 25 billion dollars in total in Papua and will take place in the following years.

He explained, there were 30 thousand workers, and of the 7 thousand were 40% of Papuan people. In addition, two hospitals have been prepared by Freeport to serve the community free of charge, as well as many roads and bridges built in Timika.

“We provide clean water, the stadium used for PON is also Freeport’s participation,” he explained.

Regarding the Freeport workers who were questioned by the DPD RI, according to Freeport, more than 3,000 employees terminated by Freeport, an offer from Freeport was made to work again, but the labor did not accept, so Freeport suggested to enter the Industrial Court. so that the court’s decision can be known and become a reference for Freeport.

Regarding Freeport’s position, Freeport will not use large numbers of workers in the future, but instead prioritizes workers with high skills. (JP/Fren)
