Eating Human Meat Is Only A Ritualism

JAKARTA, JAGAPAPUA.COM – Korowai are one of the tribes that inhabit in the land of Papua. This tribe is said to spend a lot of time in the tree. It is believed that the tribe has settled for a long time on Melanesian earth, for nearly thousands years. The Korowai tribe already breeds in the Papua area. But until now the tribe is still isolated.

Inhabiting Papua for more than a thousand years, the Karowai tribe has become one of the oldest tribes in Indonesia and this tribe rarely shows itself. The Korowai tribe is revealed, after an Italian journalist and photographer, Gianlunca Chiodini, entered the jungle of Papua to meet the tribe, as written by Thesun media.

Through a long journey, the journalist finally landed his feet in the Korowai tribe. He immediately photographed the tribe as an archive. It turned out that the tribe did not threaten the life of Chiodini in the slightest. Though the news circulated that the tribe is a human eater.

The results of the photographer’s shots showed the Korowai tribe was holding an insect-eating event. In addition to eating insects, some of them are also repairing houses and hunting for food for all its citizens.

The Korowai believe that death is related to the ‘Khakua’ demon. According to their belief the devil usually disguised as a friend or family to gain trust and approach them, eventually wanting to kill. Because of its believe they are very careful of newcomers.

From this belief also , they perform the ritual of eating human flesh to anyone considered ‘Khakhua’. The aim is to protect all members of the tribe by killing and then the members of the tribe eat the meat.

According to Chiodini’s confession, the Korowai people still practice cannibalism to this day.
“My guide calculates if there are still people in Papua’s remote forests that have not been reached so that cannibalism is still being carried out,” he said. (RS)
