Korowai Tribe, Dead on a Pile of Gold

JAKARTA, JAGAPAPUA.COM – Even though a health worker once injected a patient valued at one gram of gold, then cared for, plus, giving medicine would be replaced by 1-5 grams of gold, it was worth nothing at all compared to the current health condition of the Korowai Tribe that very pathetic..

Life on a land of gold. The Korowai are still in bad luck. It was seen in their sad faces. There is a tear dike that is unstoppable. The tears of grief are due to the short stretch of love from the hands of the Government.

Even though from the land the government also made huge profits. But behind these benefits, not one shred is used for their welfare. They are just an isolated group in their own country. Even more so now, they are suffering from disease.

It was this disease that made them Korowai slowly meet death, even though it was in a pool of gold. Claimed to be one of the richest provinces with abundant gold is only a solace. In fact, it is very contradictory.

Dozens of Korowai people in Mappi Regency, Papua Province, have died. Again, dying of disease. The government has never come to pay attention to them, both the Central Government and Regional Governments.

According to the Chairman of the Papua Health and Education Care Team (TPKP), Norberd Kemi Bobii, There are around 60 people who die every year, due to illness that has never been taken care of by the Government as reported by Antara on Wednesday (29/3).

It was also acknowledged by the Head of the Papua Health Service, Aloisius Giyai, he explained that indeed in recent years there was an increasing mortality rate in Mappi District, and the mortality rate was somewhat high especially from the Korowai tribe.

One of the factors is also, the health service is not yet maximized, it is due to several factors, one of which is not good infrastructure.

“Then whose responsibility is this? Because since 2013, all special autonomy funds have been distributed to districts, so what are the health funds used for? because the Papua Health Office has not implemented the Direct Service Program to the community or puskesmas area but only performs the function of supervision and technical guidance of health workers, “he said.

Aloisius also suspected that the Korowai were intentionally abandoned by certain district governments. “Because this Korowai is located in several districts, it could be less seriously considered by certain districts,” he concluded. (RS)
