Refugee Children in Nduga Who Live Under Hunger

JAGAPAPUA.COM -  When we traveled to visit the Nduga Refugees, while at the same time providing 400 kg of rice on March 14, 2020 in the Muliama District, Jayawijaya Regency, that day seemed to be a very sad day. Why not, I met a small boy, 4 years old, he was holding a leaf in the local language called "musan". The intended leaf could be eaten without cooking, and he wanted to try eating it.

He ate the musan leaf because of hunger and there was no food supply. Even though they occupy a new refugee site, but there is no garden that can be taken as a result of food supplies. The parents of these children just started working on the land around the evacuation, so the plants are not yet available as food needs.

It is very worrying, children eat leaves because there is no food. I think those kids just want a little food for their stomachs. The important thing is being able to withstand hunger.

This child never thought he would experience abdominal pain. Though eating leaves without cooking can be inviting pain. But there was a child, who knew that he was starving.

Very sad to see the condition of children, indeed, because their parents do not have a garden yet.

That is what is being faced by the people of Nduga Regency, Papua. Seeing this appalling condition, we hope that the Nduga Regency government, and the District Heads can see and pay attention to what is being faced by Nduga Refugees.
